Friendly Friday Rowing Race Night – 29th April

This is the evening when the rowers put their names in a hat and get to row with people of differing capabilities for a fun row around Broom and back.

It’s a great way to get to know each other. If you haven’t rowed before or are relatively new, that is no problem, everyone is welcome to come along and join in, or just to watch and have something to eat.

Cod and chips will be served after the races, followed by jam roly poly and custard.

Please keep an eye on the social calendar as we have many events planned for you this year.

Sue Elson
Social Secretary

Friendly Friday Rowing Race Night

I’m probably duplicating with the social committee, but hey you can never be reminded enough when it’s fish and chips night 😊

And It’s that time again 🥳 An invitation to get together for an informal race night at Friendly Friday on 29th April. (The first of the year) at 6pm.

Not one to be missed, these are great fun. In brief we’ll mix the teams up as always (randomly selected) and race around the Broom channel buoy and back.

The trophy 🏆 will be awarded to the fastest team and the most important coveted wooden spoon is BACK. As always our wonderful social committee will feed us. It’s cod and chips this month and food tickets can be purchased via web collect. Food, drink, and lots of fun. Come along and race or just come to watch and get to know each other. Friends and family very welcome.

  • 6pm – meet in the clubhouse.
  • 6.15pm – Briefing on course info, rules and safety.
  • 6.30pm – let the battles commence.
  • 8pm – Prizegiving, food, and Bar 🍻 .

Event is free, but if you’d like food please order via WebCollect asap.

Can’t wait to see you all

Happy Rowing.

Jane Dare
Rowing Captain

Cruiser Section – Gould Trophy Race / Lymington Cruise

Dear All,

I have offered to do a temporary Cruiser Captain role at least until we head off for our extended summer cruise. With this in mind, here is the first event:

It’s the annual Gould Trophy race to Lymington and back at the end of the month (outbound leg 30th April, return leg 2nd May). Of course, if you don’t fancy making it a race you are more than welcome to come along as a cruise.

If you would like me to try and book you a berth (given the revised arrangements at Town Quay) please can you let me know (e-mail below) the name and length of your boat, I will also book a table(s) for the meal on the Saturday night so need numbers for that too, thank you. Please can I have this info by next Tuesday (26th) at the latest. [Apologies, this should have been out sooner, hopefully cruiser owners have picked this up through the WhatsApp chat – if you’re not on there see below for details – Ed].

It looks like we will not be joining you this year due to some delays with the new engine work on Idle Wild, but we might just decide to drive down for the day.

Roger Smith
(Temporary Cruiser Captain)

Compound Reorganisation

Thank you to everybody who turned up for the compound reorganisation on Saturday morning. Lots of work got done, and we’re starting to look shipshape for the summer.

A few things to note:

  • If you can’t find your dinghy – please let me know. We’ve labelled all dinghies – if your label falls off or you change your boat, please either re-label, or talk to Hannah who can provide you with a kit!
  • We’ve left a few lasers around the wall in the inner compound to make use of the space as we don’t have many cadet boats at the moment. These will be moved back to the main compound to make way for any cadets who join during the year.
  • Some of the patrol boats will be moved into the main compound once the cruisers have all launched to make space for trolleys.
  • There is space in the inner compound for rigging, although it is on a slope. We’ll need to monitor how people get on with this.

Please stick to your allocated space and don’t put your boat in an empty space or move things around – any issues, please get in touch and I’ll try to work something out.

We have plenty of summer spaces, and can probably squeeze a few more in for the winter.

Colin Thorpe
Compound Bosun

Ebb & Flow:

A couple of new additions to the calendar in case you haven’t spotted them. There is another Curry Night on Friday 20th May (book on WebCollect). Then there’s our Open Day (Discover Sailing) on 29th May (book on WebCollect).

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.

I thought it worth continuing to include a few useful links here as a handy place to find them if you haven’t already got them bookmarked:
