Commodore’s Update
Dates for your Diary
- Friday 15th March, 7:30pm – The Season Ahead
Come along and find out what’s planned for the coming season, and the zillion ways that you can get on the water.
There are some key events this year that it is worth making a note of:
- 23rd & 24th March – Cruiser Launch Weekend. Slipway closed until cruisers are launched.
- 12th & 13th October – Cruiser Recovery Weekend
- 6th April – The Womble Cup, Compound Reorganisation and Tudor Spring Clean
- 8th June – Tudor Open Day
- 3rd August – Tudor Challenge
- 7th & 8th September – Tudor 75th Anniversary Regatta, with evening entertainment
Cruisers
There will be a Launch Briefing on Wednesday 20th March at 7:30pm. We plan to talk through how to set up tows, and also chat about what’s in store this year for the Cruiser Section.
We’re looking to train up more people to drive the RIBs during launch weekends. There is training this Saturday morning – let me or Hannah know if you would like to do this.
If you potentially need to remain in the compound post-launch, you must request prior approval from the bosuns committee by Sunday 17th June. Please write to bosun with a description of work to be completed and a schedule for this. It is expected that most boats will launch on the weekend of 23rd or before – launching late causes a significant amount of disruption and extra work for your fellow members.
Slipway
Note that there is a plastic cover missing from the edge of the slipway. Do take care.
Roles
We are still looking for people to carry out the following roles. Please let me know if you are interested. They cover all of your duty hours and mean other committee members don’t have to pick up the extra work:
- Membership Secretary
- Social Committee Member
- Maintenance Committee Member
- Dinghy Sub-Committee Member
Colin Thorpe Commodore commodore
Tudor Talk
General Water Safety & Langstone Harbour – 7pm, 8th March
All members are welcome to attend this Tudor Talk but it will include safety tips aimed at those who row or paddle or want to get into the sports. It will also be useful to new members who want to know more about Langstone Harbour. I will go over VHF usage but also go over what to do if you only have a mobile phone with you and need to call for help on the water.

Ebb & Flow
Following on from my link in last weeks Tidal Diamond related to the 200th anniversary of the RNLI, this may be of interest. The National Maritime Museum (Greenwich) has an exhibition on Women of the RNLI. It is free, and for more information and to book tickets visit: https://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/national-maritime-museum/women-of-the-rnli.
RYA1 additional dates from ASC
As you’ll have seen on WhatsApp ASC is running dedicated courses for Tudor.
There is one place left on the RYA1 dinghy sailing course due to run 13th & 14th April.
If we have lots of interest ASC are happy to add more instructors.
There’s already 6 booked onto a course in May so it looks like we’ll have a new group of sailors ready to practice together through the summer.
If you’re interested please contact Kirsty on
kirsty_stark or 07876087439
As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds always most welcome.
Let’s be careful out there.
