Spring Series Race 4 – Extra Sunset

This Sundays Spring series race 4 is combined with the Chris Wadham trophy starting at 10:30am. This is the only race in the spring series that will start from the committee boat Bruce, which will stay on its mooring west of sword sands. Please allow yourself enough time to sail down to the racing area. This one race will count towards the Spring series as well as forming the one off Chris Wadham trophy race. The Chris Wadham trophy race is a competition between Locks and Tudor sailing club. The trophy is awarded to the sailing club whose top 6 placed boats score the lowest combined points total. If anyone has any questions regarding this race then please drop me an email.

Knotty Night

Friday 17th June at 7pm

On behalf of the Sailing Committee and the Social Committee, we’re delighted to invite you to ‘Knotty Night’.

This will be our first ‘seamanship’ evening of the year, and an opportunity to practice all the essential knots you need to stay safe and secure when afloat. With so much experience in the club we’re delighted that three of our seasoned members who’ve been tying knots for years have volunteered to come along and teach.

You’ll learn your Bowline and your Reef knot. And maybe your Clove Hitch from your Round Turn and Two Half Hitches.

Before you start practising you can enjoy a ploughmans supper served from 6pm, and the bar will be open, although that might lead to some macramé.

Every knot serves a purpose, and knowing how to tie a selection is vital knowledge to possess when going on the water. Ropes and knots have a unique and ancient history and without them sailing would never have developed into the pastime that we love today.

This will be a fun evening for newer members, but we’d be delighted if long-standing members came along too to pass on knowledge and join in the fun.

There is no need to eat to participate, but please book if you fancy coming along to give us an idea on numbers

Here’s the link for booking..

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Raring to Row for 24hrs!

In December 2022 Kevin Watkins (one of Tudor Sailing Clubs Rowers) will be undertaking the challenge of a lifetime when he, together with 3 other crew members (Helen, Gemma & Adam) will start a 3000 mile rowing challenge from the Canary Islands to Antigua as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in support of Action Medical Research for Children.

In support of this epic challenge Tudor Sailing Club are organising a 24 hr sponsored rowing relay on the 1st & 2nd July 2022 around the beautiful Langstone Harbour. With all proceeds from the sponsorship, food and bar sales going to Action Medical Research for Children.

The aim of the rowing relay will be to keep Rosie one of Tudor Sailing Clubs Bursledon Gigs moving on the water for 24hrs (only stopping to switch crews). We want to get as many people involved as possible and are currently looking for volunteers to row or cox in the relay. The row will be split into 1 and 2hr slots, with crews being selected to ensure that there is at least one experienced rower in the boat at any one time.

If you can spare one or two hours of your time between 4pm on Friday 1st July and 4pm on Saturday 2nd July to help raise money for this very worthwhile cause then please let us know by completing and the online registration form. We can adjust the rowing schedule to suit your rowing ability and you will be given the opportunity to indicate your preferred rowing time.

Whilst Tudor Sailing Club will be keeping Rosie moving around Langstone Harbour, Kevin together with the rest of the Raring to Row Crew will be taking their Atlantic Boat around the Isle of Wight. Keeping the Atlantic Boat within the confines of Langstone Harbour for the duration of the row will not be possible for safety reasons as the boat is very susceptible to wind and tide.

We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £3,000 for our 24hr sponsored row (£1 for each mile rowed in the Atlantic Challenge) so please help us to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

Thank you to John Elson for his hard work organising this event.

Ebb & Flow:

Last Wednesday, with a strange mix of PLSA and RYA hats on, I had a meeting with a representative from our local National Coast Watch station at Gosport. They are, if you are not aware of them, a voluntary organisation keeping a visual watch along UK shores, and are looking to make more people aware of what they do (and with any luck raise some funds to keep them going). I have attached a copy of their leaflet with more details, and hopefully I will have some pieces from them about keeping safe on the water in the coming months. I have also added a link to their website in the Useful Links section below.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.
