Cruiser Update

Destinations

After a great start to the season in early summer, the weather in July and early August has been decidedly disappointing for cruiser sailing. Nevertheless, Tudor cruisers have still managed to get away, holing-up in safe spots, as required, to let the weather pass. A few members have been able to meet up in Solent destinations such as the Medina and Lymington (see photo), some have made it to Poole or Weymouth, while others including Idle Wild, Natterjack and Strider have travelled further, to France and/or the West Country. Thanks to everyone for sharing information and photos in the Cruiser WhatsApp Group – please keep this up as it’s great to see what everyone’s up to and perhaps learn a thing or two. We even got to see members’ photos of the Round the Island and Fastnet Races – both occurred in very breezy conditions with lots of drama!

To join the Cruiser WhatsApp group, please email me with your name, mobile number and cruiser name (for info). There’s also a Cruiser Racing WhatsApp Group.

Mid-season Mooring Check

We unfortunately had one boat part company with its mooring recently so please take the opportunity to check your mooring chain and gear, to ensure your boat is as safe and secure as possible.

Calor Gas Survey

I recently emailed all cruiser sailors to enable them to do a survey about Calor Gas usage, supported by the Westerly Owners’ Association and others. It’s been difficult to get smaller Calor gas bottles recently (including the types many of us use) following policy changes by Calor. If anyone else uses these bottles, whether for sailing or camping etc, please fill in the survey here to provide the information needed to try and improve the supply situation: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/N2P3BF/.

Ebb & Flow

A short edition this week, but an interesting selection of events highlighted by some recent KHM notices:

That last one is one mile to the west of Wootton Creek and the will be around 150 RS Tera dinghies competing, so that sound pretty busy and quite something to watch. I’m curious as to whether that is a nautical or land mile, but since they say approximately I doubt it is that important!

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.
