Weekend Sailing

For this Saturdays summer series race 5&6 to go ahead we need a race officer. If you are trained up then please volunteer via Dutyman.

This Sunday is a Cruise in company but there will be no patrol boat cover. If you would like to take part then please keep an eye on the WhatsApp group or if you are not in the group then drop me an email. If there is enough interest and the weather is good then we may sail over to Stoke on Hayling Island where there is a small bay by the Esso garage.

Bart’s Bash

This year we have been invited by the Portsmouth Andrew Simpson Centre to take part in their Bart’s Bash race on 11th September. This will be instead of the club hosting its own Bart’s Bash race. There will be a racing briefing at 13:30 at the Andrew Simpson Centre which you are encouraged to attend to find out about how the race will be run. This is followed by launching at 14:00 with the race starting at 14:30 until approximately 15:30. To enter please drop me an email as well as booking a race entry at the following link: https://asportsmouth.checkfront.co.uk/reserve/?category_id=39 The £5 entry fee is your donation for the Andrew Simpson Foundation. If you are using your own boat you do not need RYA level 2.

The Portsmouth Andrew Simpson Centre will also be hosting some taster sessions during the day if racing does not take your fancy. Which can be booked at the same link.

Tudor Regatta

On the 4th and 5th September Tudor will be hosting its annual regatta. The racing will be taking place down harbour from 10:30 on the Saturday and 11:00 on the Sunday. We will be using the club committee boat Bruce for the start line for both the cruiser and dinghy races. The intention is to host one cruiser race per day. While the dinghies will be doing 2 races back to back on the Saturday and one longer race on the Sunday. For further details please see attached the sailing instructions. On the Saturday afternoon there will be a BBQ, rowing races and kayaking fun plus the bar will be open.

On Saturday evening we will be hosting the prize giving for the 2019 season, tickets will be available from Webcollect shortly. This was supposed to have taken place back in 2020 but this was not able to take place due to the pandemic. Unfortunately we will not be allowing members to take club trophies home with them due to the need to get them engraved for the 2021 season.

After racing on the Sunday, there will be a short prize giving for the regatta. There will be prizes for first, second and third for each fleet.

Calling all Young Rowers

A reminder that we are once again building a “Young Rowers” group at the club. The previous group headed by (to name just a few) Dani, Ella, Jay and Callum all became exceptional rowers and coxswain, winning races and helping to spread the name (and fear 😉 ) of Tudor SC rowers, but time has rolled by and they have inconveniently grown up and become “Oldies” 😀 … so we start anew.

The most important point to emphasise is that all Tudor rowing is done informally and for FUN, apart from basic boat discipline there is definitely no “regimentation” and we know from the feedback from other clubs that this is a major draw for new and old rowers alike.

So!! Go and find your children and Grandchildren aged between 10 and 18 and lead them to our new Young Rowing group where they will build confidence afloat with high quality tuition in a fun atmosphere.

Weekly coaching sessions are planned for Thursday evenings starting at 1730 hrs, finishing each week around 1830 hrs. Rowing is an all year pursuit, and we’ll revisit the day and time as we lose the light.

Young Rowers under the age of 15 will be mainly taught sculling technique to protect their young musculature from the side stresses of Sweep oars.

All coaches will be DBS checked and the training will be carried out under the Tudor rowing section safety protocols which are available in the rowing section of the website. The group will naturally be monitored by the club welfare officer.

As, by design, there are limited seats on a gig, please book a place by contacting the Rowing Captain. From there you’ll be sent the necessary consent paperwork to complete and added to our new Young Rowers WhatsApp group where we can keep you up to date easily on news, information and all the fun your children are having. Sessions will be £2 per rower per week which goes towards club gig maintenance.

All that’s left to say is … Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 await 🙂

Afternoon Cream Tea

The social committee would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came along for afternoon tea on Sunday, it was great to see so many of you. We really appreciated your kind words and positive feedback.

Once again, a special thank you to Linda Vacher for the beautiful table decorations and for her continued support helping promote the fun, social side of the club.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Regatta weekend.

Maintenance Jobs

A new section for the Tidal Diamond where you can check for opportunities to tick off those maintenance hours. Just announcing the feature this week, but watch this space in future Tidal Diamonds. In the mean time see Dutyman for opportunities to help out with the social and sailing events.

Waiting for the Tide

Coastal Partners have published an update on North Portsea Island Phase 4b, or the sea defence works that includes the bit in front of Tudor to you and me! Due to overwintering birds they have to stop the work on the foreshore at the end of September, but “Works continue at the Tudor Sailing Club slipway, which will be finished in good time before we finish our construction season at the end of September” and “Next month, we will begin work to install the glass flood wall at the Andrew Simpson Centre and Tudor Sailing Club“. Hopefully their timings won’t slip 🙂 For the full update and a couple of photos visit: https://coastalpartners.org.uk/news/north-portsea-island-phase4-week17/.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.
